October 19th, 2014 Gulf Coast Half Marathon

The weather was beautiful and chilly, but not too cold. I started strong on my training for this one, but as life got busier it became more difficult towards the end. I did run it all-an important goal for me. I don't count the walking I did for maybe 60 seconds mile 10. My time was about 2.40-not my best time. My best time is 2.25. However, I learned to be okay with that time and just be happy I finished it. What slowed me down was my lack of fuel. Since I went wheat free, I wanted to fuel with natural foods. But my frozen banana pieces and frozen protein (homemade) balls melted even in the cold!!! So I had to toss them, and basically had no fuel. Lesson learned. Spend more time on my fuel. My first split time was amazing, and I did so well. When I got to mile 9, I hit a wall and needed my fuel that had melted. I had a meaningful race though because I learned the importance of planning he right fuel. I have worked so hard on my eating journey, that a little oversight cost me my time goal. Lol. I have never thought felt better having lost about 32 lbs by eliminating wheat. It inflamed me. I have learned so much since I started experimenting with foods and my body.My  next race is next Saturday. Just a  5k since I can't do my traditional Thanksgiving race. We will be in Gatlinbburg. My next big race is NOLA RNR. Super excited for that race!!
